Task force meeting shines light on domestic violence

June 25, 2012
WALES — Members of the Tri-Town Domestic Violence Task Force were introduced to a recently hired advocate during a meeting on June 21 at the Wales Senior Center.

The task force, which was established in 2001 after a murder-suicide in Wales, aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence within its three-town coverage area (Brimfield, Holland, and Wales). Until now, the task force had never included an advocate who can consult with police about various incidents and also assist victims and their families.

Choosing to go only by her first name due to safety concerns related to a past abusive relationship, Deirdre was excited to meet officers from the three towns and State Police Lt. Thomas Zona at the meeting, as well as a few members of the community.
