SOUTHBRIDGE — The school district started what's likely to be a long discussion of creationism in science classes last week, with some participants clearly interested in the concept and others equally clearly opposed.

According to Superintendent Eric Ely, any further work on the idea will require some research into what state curriculum standards require.

The idea is coming from Rev. Wally MacKenzie, who first publicly proposed it at a School Committee meeting a few weeks ago, but Ely said they've had "a couple conversations over the last six months or so."
