SOUTHBRIDGE — "We help one another, we learn from each others' ideas. It's not easy sometimes, but at the meetings I feel fortunate."

The speaker is Elena Thompson, a resident of a nearby town and the primary caregiver for her husband, who has dementia as the result of a stroke suffered 14 years ago. The meetings she's referring to are provided by the Alzheimer's Support Network (ASN) of South Central Massachusetts and open to any area resident who has a family member with Alzheimer's; is a caregiver of someone with memory loss; wants to know more about dementia care; is seeking respite from care-giving duties; or who wishes to get support from other local caregivers.

The ASN provides regular Caregivers Support Group meetings at Harrington Hospital (100 South Street) on the first Tuesday of every month. Similar meetings are also offered at the Webster Public Library on the second Monday of each month. Both meetings are open to family members and caregivers of persons with memory loss or dementia.
