'You need the slow and steady thing'

Incumbent Spinelli hoping for three more years on Council

SOUTHBRIDGE — For Larry Spinelli, politics really comes down to three key words.

"I believe in three things — responsibility, reason and respect," he said. "With every issue, you attack it with reason. You owe the citizenry the responsibility … to have an open mind about what you're doing. And you have to respect every individual whether you like their politics or them personally."

Over his 15 months as a town councilor, the self-described "grey-haired Joe Schmoe" hopes people have come to see enough of those things in his way of doing things that they'll re-elect him to a full-length term. But he faces some serious competition, sharing the June 26 ballot with fellow incumbent Denise Clemence, former councilor Steven Lazo, teacher Shaun Moriarty, web designer Amelia Peloquin, information tech guy Dennis Martinek and unemployed restaurant manager Jean Heid. Incumbent Councilor David Livengood opted not to seek re-election.
