CHARLTON — A stack of Styrofoam plates, a ball of green rubber bands, and a pile of old laundry made for the experience of a lifetime for one Shepherd Hill Regional High School junior.

Eric Mandeville, a 17-year-old Charlton resident who has studied art since he was 2, recently took part in Art All State, an award winning collaboration of the Massachusetts Art Education Association and the Worcester Art Museum.

Mandeville, the son of Tina and Paul, was one of just 145 high school juniors from across the state who was selected to participate in the two-day event that gives budding artists the chance to work in studios with professional artists. Under their mentorship, the students were broken into groups, doled random materials, and had just one day to come up with a work of art to exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum.
