STURBRIDGE — Because Cathy Curboy understands how challenging it can be when family members struggle with illnesses, she didn't think twice about taking advantage of an opportunity to raise money to support kids with cancer – even if it meant having her hair shaved off.

Curboy, of Sturbridge, and several other individuals participated in the Kids' Cancer Buzz-Off on June 3 at Gillette Stadium. Her goal is to raise $5,000 to support programs and services at Children's Hospital Boston.

"I heard about this event on the radio, and it was something I was very interested in being a part of," said Curboy, a hobby farmer and longtime rural mail carrier.
