SOUTHBRIDGE — Not long after the state finished the Route 131 project from Globe Village to Route 20, it's starting work on something Southbridge wanted included in that project — fixing the Jan Krawczyk Bridge.

Last week, the Planning Board received a letter seeking their input from Providence-based Garofalo & Assoc., the engineering firm doing the design work for Mass. Department of Transportation. It states the plan is to rehabilitate the bridge and 450 feet of roadway, replace the sidewalk, railings and road surface, and make the bridge 39 feet wide, with two lanes eastbound and one lane westbound. Furthermore, it calls for cleaning the underside, filling cracks and "voids," extending the sidewalk to Pleasant Street and relocating existing utilities while keeping one lane open as work happens.
