Tornado towns to share $4M in state aid

State releases cleanup, planting, fire safety funds

At the same time area towns were commemorating the first tornado anniversary last weekend, the state was releasing nearly $4 million in tornado recovery funds to those towns.

"We really are focused on making sure people are able to rebuild their lives and rebuild their homes," said Alex Zaroulis, spokeswoman of the Executive Office of Administration and Finance.

Curiously, the money came from a supplemental budget the Legislature approved last June. Most of that pot of money, totaling $15 million, was distributed to reimburse state agencies' costs last fall.
