SOUTHBRIDGE — Although the number looked large, the School Committee's recent unanimous vote to eliminate $730,138 from its budget plan won't result in layoffs and still allows most of the new programs they wanted to be added.

"There are no program cuts," said Business Manager Terry Wiggin. "In fact, it means program expansion."

That statement also applies to one area that has been recently quite controversial. The final vote keeps both nurses at the new middle/high school, after public concern arose over the proposal to have just one and a certified nurse assistant serve the combined school's 1,100 students.
