SOUTHBRIDGE — The School Committee approved a significant increase in the cost of busing last week, as part of the district's larger reorganization effort.

That's mostly because, as has been long known, almost all of the middle and high school students will be bussed to Torrey Road starting in September. At present, a large percentage of both schools walk.

"Southbridge went from about 40 percent of the high school walking to a total of about four [students]," said Ron Ernenwein, president of AA Transportation, the bus contractor. "So they need to add more buses."
