BRIMFIELD — Cathy Dionne will participate in her ninth Walk to End Alzheimer's this fall, an event that benefits a cause she has supported for many years since the death of her grandfather.

Dionne, of Brimfield, who has been involved with the Alzheimer's Association for 10 years, will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's as a regional leader in the Pioneer Valley. She became painfully familiar with the effects of Alzheimer's and dementia after witnessing her grandfather's struggle with the disease.

"My grandfather had Alzheimer's and I wanted to learn more about the disease. I have also worked with Alzheimer's and dementia residents in nursing homes for 14 years," said Dionne, who will not only be walking in honor of her grandfather, but also the many individuals she has met during her work at elder care facilities over the years.
