Exchange program 'a glimpse into another culture'

CHARLTON — To almost anyone who calls Charlton home, the rolling farmland and wooded back roads that make up this quiet town probably couldn't seem less exotic.

But to a group of teenagers who call Europe or Asia home, the all-American charm of our New England town is worth a trip across the pond to experience.

"They're looking to get better at English, learn about culture, and make some lifelong friends," said Diane Sullivan, site director for the Education First (EF) Homestay Program, a Boston-based nonprofit organization that in July will bring 68 foreign exchange students from China, Russia, and Spain to the area for a month-long stay.
