Schools reveal new elementary reconfiguration plan

April 12, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — Starting in August, elementary school students on Worcester Street will find themselves going to West Street School as part of the reconfiguration plan announced by the school district Tuesday, April 10.

That's the one somewhat odd aspect of the plan devised by business Manager Terry Wiggins and Superintendent Eric Ely. The rest of it is geographically coherent, with about two-thirds of the town's area feeding into Charlton Street School. The remainder, basically defined by Main, River, and Central streets and Lebanon Hill Road (both sides), will send their kids to West for grades 1-5.

"That's about as close as we can get [to having demographic balance] without doing some pretty strange things," Ely said.
