Pump House gets 30-day suspension

Bar in process of transferring liquor license

April 09, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — The Liquor License Board unanimously slapped the Pump House with a long suspension as a result of a February incident that led to at least three arrests.

The penalty, however, is unusual. If Pump House owners Ray and Jen Cratty submit the paperwork to transfer their liquor license to a new manager and corporation by April 17, they serve 30 days (starting next week). If not, though, it becomes a 75-day suspension because of the way the board phrased their motion.

Pump House attorney Michael Caplette said he has never heard of anyone imposing a "contingent" penalty — nor had police liquor agent Sgt. Carlos Dingui — and did not know if it's legal.
