STURBRIDGE — Hundreds of people attended this year's Relay for Life event at Tantasqua Regional High School to celebrate cancer survivors and raise money to help battle the disease.

Many of the guests were students from TRHS and other area schools. Organized by TRHS students and staff, as well as Katherine Hafner of the American Cancer Society, the goal was to raise $30,000 or more.

"About 15 to 20 of our students spent the entire year preparing for Relay for Life," said Martha Sullivan, a TRHS teacher who helped organize the event from the school's end. "Many of the kids were in charge of preparing a different area, including the music, the opening ceremonies, and the luminaria ceremony. This event is for a great cause, and it is something our school has been behind for years."
