CHARLTON — While this summer will mark seven years since Hurricane Katrina unleashed its power on New Orleans, leaving a path of utter destruction in its wake, the Big Easy still has a long way to go in terms in of rebuilding.

Members of the Federated Church know this firsthand, having recently returned from a mission trip to the city, where they helped with ongoing reconstruction efforts in the ninth ward.

"It's important to let them know they're not forgotten," said Sue Hardies, who made the trip for the fourth year in a row. "There are still 40,000 homes that are unoccupied."
