Warm weather re-ignites mosquito concerns

Because of the mild winter and an unusually warm March, residents are concerned about mosquitoes much earlier this year.

A string of 80-degree days last week caused people to break out the shorts and sandals — along with the insect repellents.

It's important to play it safe when dealing with mosquitoes, especially considering the yearly presence of West Nile Virus in the state. In 2010, 67 people contracted WNV in Massachusetts (six of them died), according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) records.
