$24.5M plan sent to Council

Southbridge schools put forward 'best budget'

March 22, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — The School Committee voted unanimously in favor of a $24.5 million budget Wednesday after a public hearing that drew nobody.

It next goes to the Town Council via the Education and Human Services subcommittee, where councilors are likely to need some convincing to support the proposed $1.3 million increase it calls for. Town Manager Christopher Clark has already stated he doesn't believe the town can afford such a hike.

But that doesn't really worry School Committee members, who said they feel the town and schools have developed a good relationship over the years so the results will be "fair."
