Council moves forth on zoning, fire chief

March 14, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — The Town Council gave its assent to starting the process of rezoning two key town-owned properties it wants to sell — the middle school and the MacKinnon Center.

That process, however, means the Planning Board will hold a public hearing on both plans, after which the actual changes will come back to the council for the formal three readings and a vote on approval.

In both properties' cases, the buildings have been used for many years in ways that violate the zoning they're in, but that's perfectly legal for municipal buildings, churches and a few other kinds of buildings.
