Snowless winter still adds up

Foskett: Highway budget 'grossly under-funded'

March 12, 2012
CHARLTON — Some might be surprised that Highway Superintendent Gerry Foskett went before the Board of Selectmen last week requesting that they declare a snow emergency and approve deficit spending of the town's snow and ice removal account.

After all, the National Weather Service says this has been the mildest winter in nearly a decade. As Selectman Rick Swensen pointed out, "We haven't even had any snow."

"I can't overstate how inaccurate that statement is," Foskett told the board at their Tuesday, March 6 meeting. "Let our memories go back to October."
