WORCESTER — The Southbridge girls' basketball team, making its first Central Mass. district tournament appearance since the 2001-02 season, savored a preliminary round victory over Whitinsville Christian (58-51) before being matched up with top seeded Main South — a co-op program consisting of University Park and Claremont Academy — in a Division 3 first round game played Friday, March 2.

The 16th seeded Pioneers' dreams of a deep postseason run came to a crashing halt against the Cougars, as Main South's Aretha Sullivan netted 32 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in a 64-38 victory.

Southbridge's season ended at 11-11.
