Local food makers get tips on exporting

STURBRIDGE — The terms "local food" and "export" don't normally seem like they'd go together, but promoting just such a combination was the premise of a free conference at the Publick House Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Much of what the speakers said, however, could be applied to almost any business thinking of going global.

"If you have something unique, you really have to act quickly," said Michael Thompson, CEO of Venus Wafers, a specialty bread firm. "In the food business, everything's copied quickly."
