DPW panel considers sewer plant needs

February 26, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — Local officials are looking at upgrading an existing oil boiler to gas and buying a new small dump truck for the sewer plant.

According to DPW Director Thomas Daley, both proposals are already in this year's budget, and the Council's DPW subcommittee unanimously approved both Wednesday.

Daley said the boilers are more than 25 years old, so the department looked into replacing just one or converting both, determining the cost of the latter would have been about $100,000. Doing just one is tagged at $37,000, and Daley said he plans to remove its underground oil tank next year.
