SOUTHBRIDGE — Last week's release of testing data for the school district is full of mixed signals.

The SAT scores, for example, show improvement over last year, but are still well below state and national averages. Grade 10 English MCAS scores are better than they've been in years, but math scores fell and both are still below state averages. And graduation rates have climbed over the last few years, but are still well below state averages.

"I have to believe we as a high school have not prepared our kids well enough to take that exam," Principal William Bishop told the School Committee last week, speaking of the SAT/PSAT.
