Charlton only local town to be awarded federal grant

February 15, 2012
CHARLTON — The Charlton Fire Department received more than $260,000 in federal grant funding, state officials announced last week.

The department is among 12 others from across the Commonwealth to be awarded funding by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) which totals $1.7 million, to go towards training, health programs, new safety equipment and emergency vehicles, and increased training for the font line firefighters in these communities. Charlton was the only local fire department to be awarded AFG funding, the town's share of the funding the second largest of the municipalities receiving the grant.
