Casino question to go to town meeting

Petition leads to addition to May 21 warrant

February 13, 2012
BRIMFIELD — Supporters of the MGM Resorts International casino proposal recently submitted a petition with 24 signatures to the town clerk requesting to place a non-binding question on the 2012 town meeting warrant.

Town officials have described residents' support of the proposal as about 50/50, but this question will determine exactly how many people are in favor of it. The petition was initiated by a group of local supporters currently forming in town under the name Brimfield First. State law requires 10 signatures on a petition in order to add a question to the annual town meeting warrant.

MGM Resorts International executive Bill Hornbuckle traveled to Brimfield on Thursday, Feb. 9, to thank supporters of the company's Rolling Hills Resort proposal.
