Local man faces shooting charges

Pleads not guilty at arraignment

SOUTHBRIDGE — Prompting the court to cancel the warrant for his arrest, a man allegedly turned himself in to face charges related to a Sunday afternoon shooting Feb. 5.

Miguel Rivera, of 278 Mechanic St., pled not guilty at arraignment Wednesday, Feb. 8, and is being held on $50,000 bail. He faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault to murder with a firearm, carrying a gun without a license or ID card, and a firearm violation with a prior drug/violence conviction.

Police Chief Daniel Charette said the call came in just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday that a man "had been shot and was laying there" behind 276 Mechanic St.
