STURBRIDGE — A proposal from Cinemagic Stadium Theaters to bring a movie theater to town is one step closer to becoming a reality.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Planning Board approved the proposal for a 1,210-seat movie theater to be opened at the Center at Hobbs Brook. The proposal must now be analyzed by the Design Review Committee before Cinemagic officials can apply for a building permit.

"This proposal represents a great reuse of vacant space, and it is very consistent with the town's recently finished Master Plan," said Town Planner Jean Bubon. "We received a lot of calls from residents the day after the meeting, and they were all looking to see if the proposal had passed. People are definitely excited about a movie theater in Sturbridge."
