Robbery leads to drug bust

Two men face cocaine trafficking charges

January 30, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — While investigating an armed robbery on Hamilton Street Thursday night, police walked into what they allege was a drug deal in progress, arresting two men.

The initial call came in about 8 p.m., with a report that a heavy-set Hispanic man wearing a mask had just tried to rob the Family Market while showing a black handgun. That investigation was still in process as of nightfall Friday, but the two men — Edgardo Ramirez of 75 West St. and Raul Rodriguez of 365 Hamilton St. — had already been arraigned and pled not guilty on charges of trafficking cocaine, drug violation near a school (Trinity Catholic Academy), and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

There is no evidence to indicate either man is connected to the robbery at this point.
