SOUTHBRIDGE — Once housed in a basement that even Rev. Peter Joyce said created "hazardous conditions in lots of ways," the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Mary's Church is now seeing the light.

On Monday, Bishop Robert McManus blessed its new location on the first floor of the nearly finished Parish Center, a "facility that's bright, clean and gives people a lot of dignity," Joyce said.

"It's sort of impressive considering we were down in the hold," said pantry President William Mason afterward. "We don't have to move the food as much and it has reduced the necessary for as much labor."
