Southbridge resident dies after falling through ice


Two others treated for minor injuries

DUDLEY — A Southbridge man died last week after falling through thin ice on Hayden Pond in Dudley.

According to Worcester Country District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., Southbridge resident Richard C. Redfield, 27, of 9 Rose St., Apt. 3, passed away after he was pulled from the waters of the pond Saturday, Jan. 21.

According to Early, Redfield was submerged for approximately 15 minutes before being rescued and transported to Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard in Webster, where according to Dudley Fire Chief Dean Kochanowski, he was treated for around four hours before being pronounced dead.
