SOUTHBRIDGE — Police are charging a local man with stealing his downstairs neighbor's gun and tossing it into a lake just before New Year's Day.

According to Dudley District Court files, Nathan Perrin of 747 Worcester St. is slated to be arraigned Feb. 21 on charges of daytime felony burglary, larceny of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license for an incident that happened Dec. 29. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Detective Robert Salisbury's report alleges that he visited that address on Dec. 31 to speak to Perrin's neighbor Robert Wilson, who is also Perrin's sister's boyfriend, about the fact Wilson had discovered his garage had been burglarized. Wilson told Salisbury the gun belonged to his brother, but was in his safekeeping at police request because of an October incident "until [the brother] was more stable to possess it."
