SOUTHBRIDGE — Many area residents and businesses are already looking at alternatives to oil, but have yet another reason to consider reducing driving, switching heating fuels and/or improving insulation.

Just before Christmas, the U.S. Energy Information Agency reported that Sunoco and ConocoPhillips are planning to sell three of the refineries that supply the Northeast with a large chunk of its oil and motor fuels.

Located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, two of them are already idle, and the third will be if not sold by July.
