STURBRIDGE — Members of the Residential Energy Assistance for Seniors (REAS) Foundation are working hard to keep seniors warm this winter, and they are looking for the continued support of residents to make sure no senior is cold this winter.

Jeff Tasse, the owner of Tasse's Fuel Corporation, has gone the extra mile in this initiative, setting up a challenge in which he will match up to $2,000 of donated funds. In order to take part in this program, you must write the words "Tasse's Challenge" on your check. Donations may be sent to the REAS Foundation, P.O. Box 737, Fiskdale, MA, 01518.

"The price of fuel has gone up almost a dollar since last winter, and it is hard for a lot of seniors right now," Tasse said. "Even in mild winter weather, they can still get cold and need to heat their homes more than many people."

Last year at this time, the foundation had issued $18,000 in energy assistance grants to Sturbridge seniors. As of today, it has already issued $23,750 in energy assistance grants with a projected need for an additional $30,000 in requests. Moreover, the foundation has already approved 51 applications, compared to 40 last December.
