$10M in tornado funds coming to affected towns

December 20, 2011
Sen. Stephen Brewer (D-Barre) announced on Thursday, Dec. 15, that the state has released $10.1 million for rebuilding efforts in area communities that were damaged by the June 1 tornado.

The funding includes $449,000 being released to Brimfield and another $172,000 for Sturbridge. Monson will see the most funds from this appropriation, with $519,000 slated to go to that town because the tornado rolled through its center and destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings. Brewer's district was one of hardest hit by the EF-3 tornado that caused nearly 40 miles of damage spanning nine communities in central and western Massachusetts.

"We worked very hard to make this funding available to the communities affected by the June tornado," Brewer said. "The road to recovery is long and arduous after such an enormous loss."
