SOUTHBRIDGE — In his second year running the local school district, Superintendent Eric Ely confirmed that he did throw his name in the hat for a similar job in Ohio.

But he's not a finalist. He hasn't even been interviewed yet.

"I haven't talked to anybody in Ohio and nobody's called me," Ely said when asked Tuesday.

His name became public as one of 12 applicants for the top job in the Pickerington Local School District, a regional system that includes part of Columbus and some outlying towns. According to the district's job opening brochure (available on its website), it has 10,608 students and a budget of $137.9 million, spending $9,876 per student.
