National Guard soldiers honored for snowstorm efforts

HOLLAND — Town and state officials came together on Saturday morning, Dec. 3, at Town Hall to commend seven members of the National Guard and a Holland Police lieutenant for their efforts to keep the community safe in the week after the disastrous late October snowstorm.

Selectmen James Wettlaufer and Michael Kennedy, as well as Sen. Stephen Brewer (D-Barre) and State Rep. Todd Smola (R-Palmer), were on hand to present citations to the eight individuals.

Following the singing of the national anthem by students from Holland Elementary School, Sgt. Vanessa Morales, Sgt. Frank Sacco, Sgt. Michael Carle, Spc. Kenneth Mendoza, Spc. Valentino Solo, Spc. John Mogilka, and Spc. Carlos Camacho were presented with official citations from Brewer and Smola. All are members of the Massachusetts National Guard.
