Sex offender court case continued again

December 05, 2011
DUDLEY — A convicted sex offender with Southbridge ties received his 10th continuance this year in a case alleging he tried to molest the daughter of a former girlfriend in 2010.

According to Dudley District Court records, Richard Letendre of Holyoke was arrested back in January and charged with indecent assault on a child under 14 and threatening to murder the girl and her mother. At the time, he pled not guilty and was bailed out soon thereafter for $2,500 under conditions requiring no unsupervised contact with the victim or other people under age 16.

He was previously convicted in June 2006 of a similar offense, and is on the sex offenders registry. If convicted again, he could get 10 years in prison and lifetime parole; for threatening, six months in prison or a fine.

The case is anything but simple, though. Court documents talk about an interwoven custody dispute over another child and months of delays in the production of computer evidence.
