A 'snapshot' of the bigger picture

Project offers comprehensive view of town

November 29, 2011
CHARLTON — The Central Mass. Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) recently released its community "snapshot" of Charlton — an interesting glimpse into the people and patterns that make up the town.

In early 2011 the CMRPC took on the task of creating a community profile of Charlton — a project the regional planning entity has worked on for all of the 40 communities in Central Mass. it serves. By consulting records from state and federal agencies and working with Town Planner Alan Gordon and the town's planning board, the CMRPC was able to assemble a package of information highlighting key characteristics of the town and its residents. Compiled into colorful graphs and maps, the information is user-friendly and something that CMRPC project manager Sujatha Mohanakrishnan said is valuable not just from a regional and town planning perspective, but for an everyday resident to have access to as well.

"We collect and analyze all of this data, and we wanted it to be out there and useful," she explained.
