Five local Girl Scouts are sponsoring a collection drive designed to spread some Christmas cheer.

Mikaela Lachapelle, of East Brookfield, Shannon West and Allison Dyberg of Millbury, Katie Hitchins of Townsend and Hannah Schur of Westborough will accept donations of Christmas decorations, ornaments and other holiday-themed items that will be given to families in the Brimfield area and Springfield affected by the June 1 tornado.

Immediately after the tornado, Mikaela explained, efforts focused on getting people necessities they would need, such as food and repairs to their homes and businesses.

"No one was focusing on the little things that would help families feel normal during the holidays," she said.
