STURBRIDGE — Following a 9-0 joint vote between members of the Board of Selectmen and the Sturbridge School Committee on Monday, Oct. 17, Mary Bellezza was appointed as the newest member of that committee.

Bellezza was sworn in on Tuesday morning by the Town Clerk, and she is looking forward to serving the students of Burgess Elementary School.

"I think it is important to get involved in your community," Bellezza said. "I was specifically interested in the school committee because I want to be involved in making decisions and reviewing policies that directly affect our children's education.

Although she has no prior experience on town boards or school committees, Bellezza is eager to meet the challenges she will face. Her seat won't be up for election until April, by which time she hopes to be very familiar with her new role.
