October 20, 2011
Community and state lawmakers are trying to figure out how the next decade will look in practice now that the state's Redistricting Committee has released its proposed House and Senate districts.

In Stonebridge Press' coverage area, there are several notable changes on the House side, fewer on the Senate. The 6th Worcester District will no longer cover any of East Brookfield or Oxford and will lose precincts in Charlton and Spencer, but gains all of Dudley. That town is coming from the 8th Worcester District.

"There's half a dozen ways you could have sliced this district up. Why this way?" asked Charlton Selectman David Singer, speaking as a citizen.

If he had his way, Charlton would have remained intact — its newest precinct is slated to go to the 7th Worcester — and he would have sliced off one from Southbridge.
