Clang of the trolley returns to Sturbridge

Bus-like vehicles to run during October events

October 12, 2011
STURBRIDGE — The Sturbridge Tourist Association will bring back what was once a popular New England mode of transportation for this weekend's Harvest Festival by offering trolley rides to and from the event.

The trolley will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with stops at the Town Common, the information center, the Publick House, Old Sturbridge Village and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground. Members of the Sturbridge Tourist Association are currently deciding whether to add more stops along Route 20.

"Our original intent was to rent the trolley on every other Saturday in October, but it wasn't available on those dates so we settled for having it during the Harvest Festival, which is going to attract a large number of guests," said Sturbridge Tourist Association Secretary Jessica MacDonald.

With anywhere between 7,000 and 10,000 people expected to attend the Harvest Festival Oct. 15-16, the trolley will serve as an important — and nostalgic — means of transportation during the event.
