Local doctors feeling birth pains of EMR


Physicians acclimating to new records system

Last year, an arson fire left Charlton Family Practice staff scrambling to salvage their reams of paper medical records.

This year, they and numerous other local health providers, including Harrington Hospital, are going through the process of eliminating them entirely, or at least as much as possible.

"We're transferring over to [electronic medical records, EMR] and we're all going to be bald when we're done," laughed CFP receptionist Annie Boulos.

Office manager Kathy Harrington agreed, noting the process has been a bit "frustrating," but is also going a lot faster than she expected, having moved pretty quickly in the last three weeks.
