BOH, Casella working out flu funding

Firm offers to foot vaccinations for some

October 03, 2011
SOUTHBRIDGE — It seems like an odd connection, but Casella is pledging to help Southbridge vaccinate people for the flu.

According to Health Director James Morin, the proposal came up at the most recent Board of Health meeting, when Casella's John Farese proposed providing "year-over-year support" for vaccination as part of a general discussion of the upcoming flu season.

"Basically, what we should cover is the uninsured," Morin said. "That can be any age. The insured can get [vaccinations] for just a co-pay."

He doesn't yet know how much money he'll have for the effort, which will involve collaboration with Harrington Hospital.
