STURBRIDGE — It required a great deal of tireless work, but the newly constructed three-level section of Burgess Elementary School was completed in time for the first day of school on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

"Fontaine Brothers Construction did a great job, putting in many extra shifts to get this project finished on time," said Daniel Durgin, the superintendent of the Tantasqua Regional School District. "The people of this community should be very proud of this facility."

The completed construction marked the end of the first phase of the overall renovation project designed to make Burgess a state-of-the-art school. New classrooms, lockers, and storage rooms were added, as well as a gymnasium, a nurse's suite, and large offices for Principal Daniel Carlson and his staff. Several of the new first-floor classrooms were constructed to accommodate the full-day kindergarten programs that were added for this school year.

"We are very pleased with how things have gone," Carlson said. "There is much more space for the students and staff, and the building keeps looking better every day."
