SOUTHBRIDGE — To fellow Rotarians, Norman "Zeke" Plouffe is the kind of guy who shows up for everything and will give complete strangers rides just because he has the time.

They honored him for nearly 31 years of involvement in the group Wednesday, Sept. 7, so instead of doing a more typical "Friday Conversation," we thought we'd let people have their say about him.

"I wanted to focus on one incident," said Marge Rockwood. Some time ago, she said, she and her husband picked up Plouffe to go to the funeral of a shared friend.

"Zeke had some pull there," she recalled, noting the funeral home attendant helped them get to the front of a very long line.

"'Golly, there were a lot of people at that funeral. There will be no one at mine,'" Rockwood recalled him saying afterward. "Zeke, I think you'll be very surprised."
