STURBRIDGE — Opportunities to appear on reality television shows don’t present themselves every day, but residents will have a chance to be on the set of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” next week thanks to Sturbridge resident and business owner Kimberly Desy.

Desy, who owns Desy Ice Cream and Concessions, has been extremely active in charity and benefit events since the June 1 tornadoes, giving away ice cream to survivors and emergency personnel at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield and in many area towns that were affected by the tornadoes. As a result of her company’s involvement in these events, she was recently asked by members of Capstone Contracting to assist in the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” build from Sept. 13-17, when the show’s cast will rebuild a 4,200-square-foot home for a Springfield area family.

Desy is now asking members of the community to be part of the show as well by donating their time and materials. The project will be coordinated by N. Riley Construction, a family-owned business located in Chicopee.

“I am inviting people to be a part of this project and help build this deserving family a new home,” Desy said. “A lot of supplies are still needed, and we are looking for people who are interested in taking some time to join in a great effort.”
