Towns to receive federal aid

June 19, 2011
SOUTHBRIDGE — Federal aid has been awarded to individuals in Massachusetts that were hardest hit by the June 1 tornado.

Town Manager Christopher Clark and Southbridge Fire Department Chief and Emergency Management Director Richard Ciesla announced the news Wednesday, June 15.

President Barack Obama authorized the aid under a Major Federal Disaster Declaration that took place after Gov. Deval Patrick submitted a request for federal assistance for the areas hit the hardest.

"I would like to thank President Obama and his team at FEMA for providing this federal assistance so promptly," said Patrick. "We have a lot to do to help our communities recover and rebuild, and it's good to know we can count on our government to help."

Individuals and businesses that sustained losses must register for assistance by calling FEMA tele-registration at 800-621-3362 or the TTY line at 800-462-7585. Registration can be done online at fema.gov/assistance/index.shtm. Once the FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are operational, registration can take place there as well.
