HOLLAND — A 5K race will be presented by Holland Elementary School officials on Sunday, May 22 to raise funds for an annual sixth grade class trip to Camp Bourndale in September.

The race will begin at Holland Elementary School at 10 a.m. and conclude at the Finnish Line restaurant, which is owned by legendary Holland running duo, Dick Hoyt and his son, Rick. The Hoyts are expected to take part in the race, as well as members of Team Hoyt based in Virginia Beach, Va.

"This is the second year we have held this event, and we are looking forward to having the Hoyts participate once again," said Holland Elementary School principal secretary Charlotte Lundgren, who helps organize all of the school's fundraising events.

The Hoyts have participated in more than 1,000 road races together in locations spanning the globe, including 25 Boston Marathon events. Rick, who has cerebral palsy, is pushed by Dick in a specially designed wheelchair during running competitions, and the duo has also partaken in several triathlons during which Dick pulls Rick in a specialized inflatable boat and rides with him on a custom tandem bicycle. Together, they founded the Dick and Rick Hoyt Foundation in 1989 to help promote the inclusion of disabled people in community activities and sporting events across America.
